As I mentioned in another post, I thought of switching to Octopus, mainly because of the £50 each switching bonus but also because looking at my son's account the app is better too. I just completed the online form ( Wednesday) and been informed the switch should go ahead on Friday. I was able to download the app and sign in straight away, and everything seems to be going to plan. If your interested let me know and I'll share my referral code

As mentioned, I received an email this morning informing me that the switch was completed. Less than 48 hours from application.

Wow that was quick Duppy.
I'll review my Shell bill shortly and revert as currently away for a few days.

Nice. Is the switching bonus as well as the referral bonus? Is the unit price and standing charge similar Duppy? How is their community!?

With the switching bonus the person joining and the referee both get a £50 bonus, paid after the first DD taken. The rates are the same, apart from the gas standing charge which is 27.47ppd instead of 29.11p. A quick look at the community, it looks like a customer service role, and not what we were used to in th PP forum.
The app and the webpage are better, especially if you have a smart meter. There are also a number of different tariffs available once you become a customer, with EV tariffs, agile tariffs etc, you can also get an EV through them if inclined to. The customer service is pretty good too, when I first signed up the app asked for meter readings, when I tried to submit it said there was a problem, I emailed them asking about it, and about an hour and half later received a reply saying that my account was being set up, when I checked again the readings had been entered. All in all, upto now pretty good

They were able to confirm the meter details almost immediately. They do each energy separately and I got emails from shell informing me that a switch was requested within a couple of hours

Thanks Duppy, very helpful. Sounds like a good experience. I think my brother is still with Octopus, so I guess I ought to check with him — and maybe keep the £50 treats within the family?

I moved your thread, as the Energy Tips board wasn't getting much love! 🤣

Hey Duppy, hows the Bullet the bitting?
I'm still hanging at the mo and was reluctant to pay in advance, but will bite the bullet and tweak back... dependant on the payment system.

Hey Duppy, hows the Bullet the bitting? I'm still hanging at the mo and was reluctant to pay in advance, but will bite the bullet and tweak back... dependant on the payment system. Hi struttg, it's going well, my £50 joining bonus was duly credited to my account a few days after my first payment. The Octopus app is so much better than the shell one, as the usage tags are in a more informative and readable format. Starting on 1st July Octopus are reintroducing a tracker tariff. They will post days wholesale price the day before, so if the price is high you can to some degree control your usage, but looking at the last 12 months of price, the tracker price has been consistently lower than the current government guarantee rate. It's only available for upto 50,000 existing or new customers and to register interest you must have a smart meter, or willing to have one fitted. One downside is that if you decide the tracker isn't right for you, it can take upto 14 days to revert back to the variable tariff, and you can't rejoin for 9 months. I did register interest, but won't know if accepted until July when it starts. You're right about the paying in advance, with Shell I was paying by variable direct debit, but with Octopus it seems to be a fixed D/D, but it's easy enough to monitor the balance, and if necessary request a refund of credit. I will update if accepted for this beta tariff

That wholesale bidding lark looked interesting, but their own prediction for the whole year didn't look like a huge saving... Looked great in the summer, but less so in the winter when prices might sky rocket. Good luck!

Yikes — Good luck! 😊
Are you going to decide which days to do the laundry and the dishwasher and the ironing and the TV series/hot tea and coffee bingeing? What could go wrong...? 🤣
