Wow, lots to digest in there struttg! A through and confusing dump of payback times for electric cars. It depends on the question you ask! Basically, my takeaway was if you have an ICE car that works now, keep it.

I listened to a BBC radio 4 programme one Saturday afternoon recently. The reviewer compared two cars, broadly similar, one was petrol and one all electric. They were driven around a track a designated distance and carefully monitored. The electric car saved 10 per mile. That was using today’s prices with the increases we have all had. It sounds good but then he translated that into whether it is viable to buy electric. It is not as it will take too long to recoup the extra cost of the electric car. However, he then assumed you would sell an existing petrol one and apply the proceed to the electric one, thus reducing the capital outlay. It would still take between 7.5 years and over 12 years to recover the additional costs. You would then be left with an electric car with a 7.5 to 12 year old battery in it which would not make it very attractive second hand.
The figures did not take account of slightly, very slightly, reduced servicing costs of an electric, nor the lower VED.
There was a bigger sting in the tail. The carbon footprint incurred in the manufacture of an electric car is twice that of a petrol car.
I had, before listening to the programme, already ordered a petrol car, due in July/August. I ordered direct online from the manufacturer and was given a part ex figure for my existing car that was slightly greater than what I would get selling privately.

In regards to the above comments about me moving, I've now received the results of the survey, and there are a few items that require attention, so much so that we are reconsidering, as even though the vendor may reduce the price I could do without the disruption that the works will cause. We have seen another newer property that interests us, a quick check reveals the energy supplier as ......Shell.

Not sure if this belongs here, or somewhere else - are Shell's statements issued really late, or are their dates up the swanee? My billing period is normally the 5th, but the App says my next statement (6th July - 5th August) is due in 40 days, which is the 26th of August (which happens to also be my Direct Debit date).

I only use the online account: Not sure why shell always advise online on the overview page that the next metre read is on the 5th of each month. My statement is always from the 1st to the 1st (01 Jun 22 - 01 Jul 22) and I just submit my readings at the end of the month for justin and the 1st. The statement always reflect 1st to the 1st and has been spot on. Shell also send a prompt at month end for a meter read, can't remember the detail and the 5th has no meaning in my wee brain.
Shell still prompting me for a Smart Metre even though I advised this dude to update my records stating I don't won't one. Maybe the APP and or Smart Meters work on different time frames.

Mine is working as it should. They take a meter reading on the 5th and the bill comes on the 6th, sometimes the 7th. Payable on the 20th.

Ignore the next date due in the app gwyndy its a load of bs. I even queried it with them and they didn’t have an answer for the random date which synchronises with nothing 😂
