They changed my direct debit (in my case reduced) but I asked them to keep it the same (so I have some buffer in winter) no issues. Talk to them on live chat hopefully they will move it back easy. Or May be able to change it yourself in your account.

I can change to variable online (not using APP) and I guess it will do what it states and take what you owe...month end. Currently it will pan out that my credit will reduce meaning that mid month in real terms will be in debit. I'll see how it pans out and may move to variable as preferable to being informed that the DD has increased and not being able to lower Shells Bar to my preference. My not so cunning plan and no doubt others too including many who are are struggling have been headed off at the pass by the Oil Barons.

Can you not change it in the app or online to a variable DD so only the actual cost is taken? That's exactly what I've done, my April bill is due tomorrow, but my credit will more than cover it and most of this month's usage, no D/D taken this month š, better in my bank than theirs

Today is my meter reading day, although I canāt submit them. Shell donāt take their money until about the 18th though. Last year when I was on a low PP fixed tariff at this time my total cost for April was Ā£86.94. This month, the first time I have had a full month on the April rates, I estimate it at Ā£176.21. Despite my using just over 500kWhs less gas in the period and about the same in electricity.
Roll on October!
My credit was used up last month so they will take the full amount in a couple of weeks time.

I've just checked mine compared to last year Electric usage down from 350 to 265 kWh Gas usage down from 1034 to 465 kWh
The cost is up from Ā£91.25 to Ā£135.14, although this figure is an estimate I haven't yet had my statement despite the website saying it's due on the 5th. It doesn't matter what we do to try to mitigate the increased costs, we're stuffed

Good reductions in usage there Duppy! The warmer weather has helped, but I have turned down the thermostat. ( It's now set at 18Ā°), I got no end of earache but I was aware that the prices had increased and If we had kept at the normal usage, it would be unaffordable in the longer term

Fixed deals (not that I've had time to research) seem like a good option after the latest (eye-watering) estimates of prices rises!

Neigh bother..... I reckon it's gonna be some time before it'll be worth a switch. Let's face it most of the savings that peeps made was based on loss leaders by companies long gone or getting in early on a fix deals sold to grab the pricing headlines. Industry needs a complete re think, but I doubt theres enough thinkers of the thinking to execute a cunning plan.

Out of interest I have just run a check in a comparisons site. Answer - āWe found no energy tariffs that will reduce your bills.ā Not a surprise. Still we have help coming with credits to our energy company accounts and a bit of extra at the end of the year. it might meet some of the October increase!

Yep the credits will alleviate on many levels assisting in varying degrees (no pun intended) to keep the wheels grinding. Gonna be a rocky road for lots of peeps and business on the edge.

Do you think it's just down to system generated inflexible analysis? Hence my later update explaining I could not reduce my DD below Ā£126...its the cunning way its been set up stop canny punters... I think it may be, my current plan is that once I've received a statement which brings the balance down, I will either go back in to increase the DD, or make a one-off payment. Much as it's nice to have the money in savings, I'm far more concerned about not having a massive bill at some point in the future.

Yep gwyndy having a massive bill is the biggest concern; and the rest is just game playing...
Not sure why Shell advise next Meter read on the 5th when the period is from 1st to the 1st. When I submit readings in line with 1st to the 1st these actual are consistently on the the monthly statement. Irrespective when it arrives without a consistent arrival date.

They take my readings on the 5th, have been sending me the bill dated the 6th and take the money (full amount, not a set payment) from my bank on or about the 20th. No worries about big bills as I know what it is to be within about a Ā£1 or so. The variation is due to the time they take the reading and also the volume correction and calorific value figures they use to convert the gas to kWhs. They vary slightly.
It still annoys me that the standing charge is so unnecessarily high to pay for the companies that failed, yet their directors did OK (including Pure Planetās), and Ofgem allowed it to happen.
Now we read of Octupus telling us heat pumps are the way to go, despite the cost of installation being irrecoverable and their accounts (to April 2021) show they made an operating loss of Ā£87.4 million and have liabilities of Ā£64 million.
