I reckon accumulated house clutter is like putting weight on one doughnut at at time. 😂 Good luck getting to know the local charity shops and auction house... Everybody else’s stuff is sh.t but your own sh.t is stuff. You must be ruthless!

I reckon accumulated house clutter is like putting weight on one doughnut at at time. 😂 Good luck getting to know the local charity shops and auction house... To be honest, I've made so many trips to the tip before and after the move, I think I'll be invited to their Xmas party. But I will have to find another charity shop, I must have restocked the shop with all my donations before the move. but it's a bit too far from my new home

Everybody else’s stuff is sh.t but your own sh.t is stuff. You must be ruthless! Of course you're right, I don't usually like discarding items if I think they can be put to use in the future, but I am starting to realize that the stuff I've kept over the years has not and probably will not be used, so out it goes. I only moved yesterday, but already been to the tip three times and another load ready to go tomorrow.

It intrigues me that we clear out and go to the tip. Then six months later we are back at the tip again off loading more. I suspect we all fall into the trap of thinking “this might be useful one day.” Now I look at something and my first thought when I have reminded myself I have not used the item in decades is not the tip but the local charity shop. I have a few old mobile phones lying around and old laptop or tablet type computers. They will switch on but not used for well over 20 years! Yet I am reluctant to bin them. I am likely to go before they do!

How is it possible to accumulate so much stuff. I've also got a load of stuff in a storage unit and there is no way it's all going to fit in the house, oh the joys of downsizing I wish I knew, back in 2019 when our bedroom was moved into what was then the living room, we boxed up the contents of both rooms and put them in Heidi's spare bedroom. Due to CoVid we didn't get new storage furniture until late 2020 (and even then it wasn't a planned solution, we created 'cupboards' by forming a stack of these in each of the bedroom alcoves.). We had a bit of a sort out during the year or so wait, yet we still never managed to fit everything that was left in the new space available.

As far as I know they are, BUT, they have to be paired to the electricity meter, and that needs to be done by the suppliers and/or the DCC. When with PP I had to do a factory reset on my IHD, it had to be reconnected by the smart meter team by them giving me access codes to input I guess I will have to do that soon. I will get you the info on the meter and IHD I was supplied with later, I can't get to them right now. Oops, I thought I'd done this: Chameleon IHD7-CAD-PPMID chameleontechnology.co.uk/solutions/smart-in-home-displays/Interestingly Chameleon supply a 'Universal Display' here: ivie.co.uk/product/ivie-bud/Not sure I'd want to fork out £50 for the privilege of something though.

I wouldn't worry ( not that you are) about it gwyndy, you have mentioned it elsewhere. Interestingly shell has noted in the app for the new account that the "smart" electric meter is not communicating and will ask for monthly readings, no mention of trying to fix the problem

As I think I mentioned elsewhere, I was first told to 'wait 28 days,' then when that didn't work, the answer was 'nothing we can do,' only slightly more politely.

If it makes you feel any better Duppy, in 2020/1 my next door neighbour had to have her spare room cleared out so a profiling bed could be installed in her home for her to come out of hospital. I don't know how much stuff we got rid of, but I set aside a day with her daughter, son, and some of their friends, to empty it out - and I ended up going out with more stuff the next day as well. I think we started loading the van and 9am, left on the first drop off by 10am, and I still had stuff to take to the recycling centre when the closed at 6pm. The Sally Army shop refused to take any more when I arrived with the 3rd vanload. We outdid our welcome in every charity shop in Ammanford, and there are at least 5 of them. After dropping off the Charity Shop stuff first, I made 2 trips to the recycling centre on day one, and you can get an awful lot of crap in the back of a Peugeot Boxer van. Honestly, Heidi - Kate's carer, thinks my place is 'cluttered' - this woman lived in a two bedroom bungalow with her husband, having the same size home, I cannot work out where they hid it all - it must have been stacked floor to ceiling somewhere.

Heidi, like my mum was, is one of these people that claims they can throw things without a second thought, but I think most people have at least one 'weak spot.' Hi-Fi cables, magazines, and books are my main failings, although I have a box in my shed that appears to be full of 'old power supplies.' My mum loved china/porcelain - to the degree that I have a box in my attic full of 'Wedgewood' stuff she bought in the late 90s early 00s - I wanted to get rid of it, but my relatives objected, I offered it to them, but they didn't take it. Heidi's weakspot is 'Yorkies' - she loves to collect model yorkies. Kate's is cat paraphernalia.

Old power supplies are an amusing form of clutter, yet when I needed a USB-C charging cable on Monday I didn't have one. As for the phones that gerryhatrick mentioned, I like the advice I once read, sell/give them sooner whilst they are still useful. Keeping them as spares until they are useless, just cheats the environment of the potential reuse of a half decent phone.

At the same time I asked if I could have an IHD. They replied that as my meters were Smets1 they didn't have any displays that were compatible, they also said they have tried but failed to get the meters communicating and all they could offer was replacing the meters with Smets2 and giving me an IHD that way. I will say one thing for the email support, they answered each email within 2 hours, that pretty good
