Remember to take a reading on the 30th of this month. Whilst those with smart meters should have an accurate calculation I am never convinced. My bills are calculated to the 4th of the month so my October bill should only have 4 days at the higher rates.
A friend last night told me of another ruse but it may not work so well now. A colleague of his does not have a smart meter and submits readings every month. For some time he overstated the readings. He is of course paying for energy he has not used but is doing so at lower rates pre the increase. When the high rates start he sends in the correct reading which then produces a credit. Not a bad idea but don’t overestimate by too much as the supplier’s system may pick it up. No good if you are on a smart meter sadly.

I did this when the prices started to rise. Luckily for me the gas meter, although smart wasn't sending readings so when I was asked for a reading I overcooked it, subsequent readings were taken and a portion of my "credit " units subtracted before submission. The readings eventually evened out just before moving. I think it saved me about £40. Not much, but compared to their profits not even a drop in the ocean
