Hi, I have finally took the plunge and changed from Shell to Octopus, variable to variable, however Octopus is a fraction cheaper AND I did it through a referral from a friend, so we both will (hopefully) get £50 each. Got sick of the poor Shell customer service and poor billing ( as yous have all experienced). Will see how long it takes Shell to refund me my £300 credit balance!

Well done, I did the same thing three months ago, your £50 bonus will be paid after you have paid your first D/D. I am now on tracker, the prices are very good at the moment, but change daily, so need to keep an eye on it. Today's prices are 16.13 kWh for electricity and 3.82 kWh for gas, plas your standing charge, which again is cheaper than variable but is the same each day.. Price varies according to region

Yep moving is more about getting away from Shell than the tariffs in this market. I've just been tweaking the DD down before the move to Octopus with referral. I've had some initial email responses from Octopus that was encouraging once passed the robo system which was not frustrating like many.
angelabikerbabe has increased recent communication participation by 25% and will be good for 25 Quids Stats. If this carries we should canvas for a news letter.

I really need to get my finger out and do something on my energy. Thing is, I don't trust smart meters, so the Octopus deal is not an option. Maybe a nice summer job to explore options. Good to hear from you (especially angelabikerbabe) — you're pushing our stats through the roof! 🤣

You don't need a smart meter to join Octopus(but it helps), especially if you go on the variable tariff. Some posters in the FB Octopus tracker page have joined tracker with a dumb meter, but give readings more frequently. The readings are calculated using an algorithm to give daily usage which is then charged at the appropriate daily rate. But I expect that they would expect you to go smart. Just for curiosity, what are your objections to smart meters, I was also against them, but since I got them I haven't looked back as it gives you options that would not normally be available to you, plus saves getting on hands and knees to read the meters as I found it difficult to get back up.

Helpful Duppy, thanks. It's a nice side-step to use the tracker without a Smart meter (I'm not sure how long 🐙 would tolerate that trick). But anyway, I feel I haven't got the will to speculate to that degree on energy price fluctuations. Yes, choosing a day to do laundry is tempting, but choosing a sunny day to dry stuff is enough of a challenge. 🤣 I do like the 30 minute readings from Shell (at another location I support). But that data often doesn't load, or is days out of date! But that's a Shell issue I suspect. As for why I won't have a Smart Meter? They have a remote controlled OFF switch. Great when there's interference from a glitch/Russian/Chinese or any other hacker.

Yep....re loss of potential control..... no smart meter for me. If you're on top of your energy usage then can't see the need for the smart OCD. But saying that I suffer with meter readings inputs via my spread sheet - and it works until I loose control.
Still haven't initiated the Octopus move and referral via a choice of friends. Guess I would like to explore the choices, if there are any.
