Just had an email saying that: Your electricity rates are changing from 33.006p to 32.364p per kWh. Your electricity standing charge per day is changing from 49.54p to 55.60p. Your gas rates are changing from 10.244p per kWh to 10.243p per kWh. Your gas standing charge per day is changing from 28.48p to 29.11p.
I suspect that the higher standing change will dominate the minor rate cut

Just had mine. In my case the gas rate has changed from 10.344p to 10.348p and standing charge from 28.48o to 29.11p. The electricity rate has changed from 36.448p to 34.761p, and the standing charge from 48.59p to 61.81p. That electricity standing charge works out at £225 per year. Daylight robbery, at least Dick Turpin wore a mask

Just had a go at Shell after consistently providing meter reads with billing periods historically from Month start to month end they've provided a bill for the whole of march PLUS 4 days into April with the new tariff - Why? The dude from SA said thats the bill period from 5th to 4th, I said Oh no it isn't its historically from 1st to end.
Error in their system of recording meter reads and some silly corrections making the statement more complicated than it need to be. Now pending feedback.
Maybe and only maybe their compute system is struggling between those on smarty meters and those like me that are not. Plus the bill was produced earlier (on the 4th...)than normal, but added the 4 days into April had to estimate the reads due to their period change.
Plays havoc with my free radicals, sorry I mean my spread sheet if they don't revert......I''ll battle on

I haven't got a clue what's happening half the time, my meter reads are supposed to be the 7th and the bill generated on the 10th, but sometimes the gas and electric are read on different days, on a few occasions I've found the same days usage on different bills, which then results in recalculations and bill adjustments. To make things more complicated the app gives the usage from beginning to end of the month, so I can't even use that as a guide

If these where normal times, If I had chosen SE, if the price was right and billing periods/system (not costing errors) was IFY then I would put up with it if I was saving money. But we're not within a cycle to move on. Their customer service dude could not counter my comments and I guess they'll change the bill period and thats that. Extending my bill by 4 days and applied to all customers adds up...
Give it time and time to move on.
Fight the power!

I was surprised the other week, my daughter has bought a house with her soon to be husband and the energy supplier was Shell, there were able to open an account with Octopus ( with the aid of a £50 each referral from my son ), and the switch went smoothly, They had to get new meters though as the ones fitted were Smets1 and were not communicating. I have considered trying myself, even if only for the £50.

Why not it all adds up and in the scheme of things I'd choose Octopus rather than SE.

Yes, if all the rates are still the same between suppliers, swapping and pocketing incentives could be a good way to earn pin money!

So I've had several conversations and to be fair they're quick in answering and following up, but it all ends there. After travelling round the world with customer service into complaints it is clear that they just don't know why their system changes billing cycles and when theres a good time to submit a reading to effect accuracy. Anyway I won't bore you with the detailed message I've sent by email today....but here's a line or 2
- unless of course SE has a crazy AI running thangs for a laugh! - I look forward to some clarity, I'm all ears.

Follow up today to discover that the unknowns make manual adjustments to Bills and that for recording and training and auditing purposes the dudes that respond have no access to the calls to see why actions take place. Lol's listening, but hey ho I'm gonna plot my way out once the April statement periods comes in and reviewed including online screen shots and meter images. I'm being OTT but, best keep all those little LOGICAL ducks in a row.

It's nice to have the little crusades — think of it as a public service for the greater good.

Yes thanks 25 Quid, exactly what I said to the last dude, its not about me its about all those peeps who cant get there head around an overly complicated billing system.
The funny thing is I sent another email closing this out dependent on next bill statement and lo and behold it raised another complaint reference so I guess I'll get another call. Hope its devoid as the last 3.
One of my lines: - I replied on the 11th that this matter was closed until I got another statement for reasons still unknown, I don’t need to know as that would be futile to know and nobody knows anyway - you cant beat a mystery.

I've seen the inside of billing systems and know that often times, features that were built for one reason, end up being triggered for a whole load of inappropriate/unnecessary reasons.

Yep systems follow set paths and things that fall in-between those slots, ping out correspondence etc as I'm talk generically about lots of systems including Bank and BS's. It's how well they set up their systems and sadly front line dudes have to pick their way between. I was not a lover of Little Britain but the line the "computer says no" is bang on.
