Octopus have introduced a new initiative, for saving energy. Free electricity sessions when the grid is greenest, or get rewarded for saving energy when demand is high. octopus.energy/octoplus/

Sounds good! Looks like you have to opt-in to each "Free Electricity Sessions". I've read their FAQs but am confused if this is different to the other saving scheme octopus.energy/blog/saving-sessions-faqs/. They link to this old page from the new scheme, but this looks entirely different (from their older saving scheme). One is to save when energy is scarce. The new one is to use when there is too much (windy, sunny days). Meanwhile. What do points make? Well, there are 800 Octopoints to a £1. Shame it's all so wordy and confusing. And why do I have to click on every question to read the answer?! That's annoying; just show me them all. /rant 😉

@ 25 quid, it does seem confusing, I think they have just merged the two schemes under the same umbrella. My son opted in and he ended up with £19 credit as they included past saving sessions going back as far as march, sadly I only got the 500 point joining bonus worth a whole £0.62. I agree with the comments about the Q&A, irritating to have to open each category

Top tip! I've suggested my brother does that as he's been with them for a while...
What are you going to spend your 62p on?

Hi @25 quid, not too bad I "earned" £1.45 worth of points last time, plus of course the lower bill usage for the period, I reduced my usage by 0.64kWh..
I am now on the tracker tariff which has so far saved me £275 over the SVR since April. Got to be vigilant though as the rates are now close to the SVR and change every day. Today 30/11 is the most expensive it's been up to now 26.69p kWh ( Merseyside)

Oww er, it's a game and a rollercoaster all at the same time. I guess you've "got some money in the bank" for when the tracker goes high in the winter?
Good luck riding the crest of the wave! I reckon you're going to end up ahead.

According to the tracker group on Facebook, yearly averages are well below the SVR. The rates only went above variable for a week beginning of December. There are websites that attempt to predict future pricing, but it depends on weather conditions and wind and solar generation etc. Those that have been on tracker for over a year are confident that the yearly savings will overcome any short term increases, and to hold our nerve. There are some that have erred on the side of caution and switched back to the variable tariff, but they will be unable to switch back for 9 months, which will take them to the period next year when usage will start increasing again after dropping off in the warmer lighter months. It's a case of holding my nerve, I was able to refund £300 of my credit and still leave approx 2 months DD in "the bank" for any increases

I've just re-read the link at the top, octopus.energy/octoplus/ and seen this isn't what you're talking about. I found the info at octotrack.co.ukI guess a few expensive days in the depths of winter could have a big effect on the annual situation. Stay brave
