So, having been away, the house got cold. Triggered the heating at 9:30 and came in 11 hours later to see it was quite warm. I thought it interesting that the temperature initially increased quickly, yet progressively slowed. Boiler was on non-stop throughout.

I suppose it depends on what type of controls you have, thermostats, TRVs ect. I have dual zone nest thermostat but never use zone 2 as it only covers main bedroom and ensuite, I just leave the door open to transfer heat.

This was running the boiler flat out! I guess the slowdown was due to the house getting further from external ambient (about 8°C) and closer to the boiler flow temperature (63°C).
I've a Honeywell system that would modulate the boiler as it approaches set point, but I subverted that for this experiment. From prior experience I knew that the last degree or two takes a looong time. I was still surprised at how much the rate of increase tailed off...

Surprisingly my system is similar, the bigger the difference between ambient and set temperature, the shorter the time in relation to the increase. It can inform me that you increase from 14° to 18° will take 1 HR 30 min, but if I increase 18-19° it says it will take 40 min
