Has anyone else had an email with their new price cap values? My projection is about 50% out. I tried inserting the image using the built in tool, but failed, so here's a clickable thumbnail

I've just seen mine: going up 58%!! The good news: I have a new boiler, so hopefully gas usage should be lower with this more efficient one.

Yeah, yours has gone up less than mine. Possibly because I'm electricity only?

I take it nobody has yet had new figures from Shell. I suppose they can’t send any until the Government provides details of its new cap. All I know so far is that, but for the Government intervention, we would be looking at about 15p pkWh for gas with a 28p per day SC and for electricity 52p pkW and 46p. I suspect the government intervention is held up by a little event that occurred last Thursday in Balmoral.
Up to the 4th September my costs are in line with what I thought they would be at the beginning of the year.
The idea of a reduced rate for those with a smart meter and using power off peak appeals. Our three biggest “drainers” are the dishwasher, washing machine and tumbler drier. I suppose the oven follows after that. Very easy to adjust usage of the three major ones to certain times or the day.

Nothing from Shell for me either.
Just thinking, if you move your washer and drier use into the night time, you might have to add ironing to more of your day time... Or maybe I'm the only one who like to get stuff out quick, so it doesn't crease and need ironing?

None of my clothes need ironing! Just bedding every so often. Perhaps the washing may be done early morning if there is a reduced off peak rate then. I remember the day when ladies of the house got up early on a Monday morning before breakfast to do the washing, ran it through the mangle and then out on the line. Wouldn’t work for me, I never have breakfast!

Whats all this about ironing, I only iron my clothes for special occasions, and who irons bedsheets, they will only crease as soon as you get in

I suppose if your clothes are very creased, that increases their tog rating as more air is trapped in the creases! Saves fuel. Brilliant! 😂 Duppy, that standing charge hurts! That's £273 before you even turn anything on!

It crossed my mind this morning that I could end up this year not paying too much more than last year. Certainly if I had been with Shell for the whole of last year. My total cost last year if I had been with Shell throughout would have been £1491. My cost to date this year (to 4th September)is £1060. If with the increases coming it becomes £200 per month for September to December (unlikely) then the total becomes £1860. The government are giving me a £400 rebate plus an extra winter fuel allowance of £300. That knocks the total cost down to around £1160. Roughly what I paid in 2021.
I hope my maths is right!

I think my mum is in a similar situation. As a low user, the rebates have a proportionately larger effect and should keep the total cost similar to last year.

I don’t consider I am a low user though. A 4 bed detached in the north.
