So, is there a double whammy coming in April? No rebate, plus a price rise! 😬
I recently explored my loft for the first time in years and found the insulation heaped in a pile. Looks like the sparkies shifted it out of their way when they rewired! The landing feels a lot warmer since I redistributed it.

I'm afraid it's true about the double whammy, although why is there going to be an increase when the wholesale gas prices in Europe is dropping to 2021/22 levels. Regards the loft insulation, it's amazing the difference it makes, in my previous house, I knew my insulation was not really sufficient and I finally decided to top it up. It was summer and I noticed that the landing was cooler than normal, and come winter you no longer felt a cold barrier when going up the stairs. I should have done it much sooner.

Yeah, I still get a bit of a cold barrier as I go upstairs (not as much as before). But the loft hatch is still uninsulated, so that's a job for a rainy day...

Struggling to find where to move to so got the point of no return, had the double glazing installed to the front of the house which has made a big difference. Funny now noticed a little draft that comes from under the stairs during the cold spell via the cupboard door emanating from the vent under the front door. So guess I could get some insulation.
NB: The DG bods lived up to my expectation - I won't swear theres too many listening.

Double whammy? Not sure. From the 1st January I have a very slight cost reduction and I am aware wholesale prices are dropping. I have been involved with an organisation and its energy costs. They are dropping and the indications are there is more to come. However, I suspect that by the time the cap goes the price will have dropped to a similar level that the cap provides.

I increased my loft insulation to 300mm January 2021 and am certain it made a difference. I need to do the loft hatch. Must research that. Spring and Autumn now seem to be the only times to work in the loft. Winter it is too cold, usually colder than outside, and Summer, well if you want to lose weight that is the place to go.

I saw an interesting table of depth (and cost) of insulation vs energy (cost) saving. The initial depths up to 100 or 170 mm have a very quick payback, and then for deeper depths not surprisingly perhaps, the payback is in the years...
Drafts are a thing too. It's funny how new high performance double glazing has to have these little draft holes. Humidity. I've just seen mine go up from 50 to 70%, cos I put some washing out (well in the house). Can't do that too often and get away with it. It's a balance. Smelly clothes or damp! 😂

Interesting point about those draught holes in the DG ( known as trickle vents ) with the new regulations newer homes are virtually air tight and need these vents to allow a little air flow.
Depending on your view, if you get a dehumidifier, one with a laundry mode, you can dry your washing indoors without causing excessive moisture. They don't cost a lot to run and are certainly cheaper than using a tumble dryer

Just bought this little beauty www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00NFRTVY6 although its now £10 more expensive. I'm still waiting for reports about how well it has actually worked when drying washing.

Interesting and look forward to your feedback. Our washing seems to dry ok - hoover the non DG with a Karcher thang. Wonder how many pennies we save not having to hoover the front bay windows. We don't have a tumble dryer and used our later mothers for the towels. We now have rough towels and never found a solution other than they soften up after the initial sanding down. No wonder the bathroom guests dusty - yuk you say.

I had one of those, but it didn't really work with drying clothes , so I got one of these www.appliancesdirect.co.uk/p/cd10l/electriq-cd10l-dehumidifierIt seems to be out of stock now and a lot more expensive than I paid for it, but it has timers, humidity control, laundry mode and a purifier filter

Both those dehumidifiers look neat. Any idea what their power rating is? It has to be less than a tumbler drier!
