Surprisingly, I have noticed that Shell are now offering a 25 month fixed tariff deal. The rates are:- Existing rate
Electric 29.58 p kWh. S/C 47.58p per day
Gas 7.37p per kWh. S/C 27.22p per day
New July 24 fixed
Electric 39.68p kWh S/C 74.98p per day
Gas. 10.68p per kWh. S/C. 27.36p per day
Increase works out at
Electric 34% increase per kWh 57.37% increase S/C
Gas. 44.92% increase per kWh 0.5% increase. S/C
I don't think I will be taking up this "offer"

That's quite a Standing Charge hike! I'll join you Duppy in your conclusion.

I wonder why they SC has gone up. I thought that was meant to come down in time as the cost of admin is recovered.
I'll wait!

They probably increased the standing charge so much because that's the only thing you can't do anything about. Unit costs to some degree can be alleviated by reducing usage, the standing charge is payable even if you don't use any energy

True. Last month my standing charge was more than my usage. That’s so wrong.

I used to be with a supplier with no standing charge. That was a long time ago, but felt nice (especially in the summer)!

A friend running a business has separate billing for various parts of his premises as they are separate units. One is mainly storage. His electricity standing charge is more than 10 times the charge for electricity used.
At long last I read that Ofgem are waking up and realise they should never have allowed many of those companies that failed to have started up or continue to trade. They had in the past just thought competition would be good. It never dawned on them that some of the companies would be here today but gone tomorrow. They seemed to have realised that the companies that failed would have anyway. They are also looking at ensuring energy companies ring fence customer’s credit balances to protect them. Surprise, surprise one or two are objecting saying it will put costs up. Octopus is one such. Nice that they now admit they use customers’ money as interest free credit to support their business. These are the companies that are already heavily in debt!

Just having a gander, not much recent activity in the lounge area........I've only had a quick few seconds scans. When it cools down I'll have another look.

It is a while since anybody posted here. More increases ahead. A friend is with SO Energy. Every time he gets a bill they ask him to recommend a friend and he will get £40 as will the friend. He recommended me to be told that SO no longer do this despite telling him every month they do. However, I tried them for a quote. They wouldn’t quote. It took a bit of digging around but I found their current tariff. Absolutely identical to what Shell are charging me. SO is owned by an Irish company I believe.
