We think costs are high but in looking at energy costs for a charity I have had massive quotes, far bigger than the capped domestic market. One produced an increase of 1166% and that was just for gas. It seems clear the energy suppliers are making profits from the business world to make up for losses on the domestic scene. Shell, BP and a couple of others would not quote, even a variable rate. This morning nobody is quoting because of the proposed maintenance on Nord Steam 1 next week plus I suspect because they await the Ofgem announcement on Friday, although I suspect they are told in advance.
I believe from there being over 70 suppliers a few years ago we are now down to 22. But I would not blame the gas crisis starting last year for the demise of most. They were not going to succeed anyway. Of the 22 I think some are perilously weak.
I will dig out my Aran sweater and cardigan for the winter!

In my college days when my digs had no central heating other than a paraffin heater, instead of putting a film on the windows I used to scrape the ice off - the inside! Then time it to see how long it would take to form again. Not long!

Re Powering your ideas: - ( I did not deeply think about my answers, been having a pop from surveys they send.... and these questions where based following on from surveys..I guess I will not get a reward)
Q: Do you think about the value for money that Shell Energy offers to you any differently because their parent company is Shell. Why/ why not?
I do think about it, just the same as I thought about it with Pure Planet, although BP was not fully committed hence the demise of PP and Ironically now with Shell.
The why or why not feels grey. At the end of the day Shell Energy (previously First Utility) are in business as a separate entity and have to be a viable business. I have not researched to see if Shell PLC provides any benefit to Shell Energy because in this current (due to the war) energy market it appears it does not matter what supplier you have... The fact is (pre war) the market was already broken and did not take much to push many out of the business who should not of been allowed to set up in the first place. Perhaps for some and I include myself, this broken market with loss leaders benefited peeps like me to get energy cheaply. The regulators are crap at what they do and our governments understanding, their short term-ism never fails to just disappoint. Smart meter roll out was a great example.
Q:What positive things, if any, do you think the parent company brings to you as a Shell Energy customer when it comes to value for money?
Most likely on hedging energy and providing cheaper loans to assist the business.
Q: And are there any negatives? Does the parent company negatively impact on how you feel about the value for money you receive from Shell Energy?
Nope the negatives where regularly discussed in PP's great community approach and often BP raised as a negative. Oil producers have dirty hands that come with corporate greed...that aside they have the wedge to make the changes into renewables and I guess more corporate greed will filter to the top as it continues to do in this sickening world of increasing poverty!

Thought I'd talk to myself in this Freddy.
Anyway Shell don't seem to have a consistent date when sending out their statement/bill. Not that I need it, but it appears slack and not seen Septembers.

Mine arrive OK. This month’s was two days late, I assume because they were setting up the rebate on the bill.

Yep I thought it might be delayed setting up the rebate. Just checked and mines not online and think I get a nudge when its does.

I don't think it's the rebate holding things up, after moving in August I only received the first bill last week, which is one week shy of two months usage, but as I pay on receipt of the bill. I noticed the rebate was applied to my account on 2 October

Still no Bill. But got £10 from this forum thang just answering surveys stuff....
I sent this and got this response: - Hello Strutt,
You have reached Participant Support. Thank you very much for your valuable feedback. We will definitely take it into consideration. Best regards, ..... Rewards & Participant Support
Hi,
I get the research, the surveys and perhaps some funnelling of answers, but its a bit of stretch when it comes to a forming a community. Anyway just a thought on the thinking behind the lounge which clearly lacks activity.
Cheers,
Strutt G

So, I'm missing something here. What's this "Powering your ideas", "Participant Support" thang?

I joined as a Shell invite thingy thang. Its has a lounge where peeps hardly participate accept asking how to redeem vouchers or saying thanks as they have been included in answering surveys, which in my view is to funnel answers to satisfy the end results and I usually don't play ball. A scant monthly new letter arrives all based on the survey participation in the "community". So I thought I'd asked a question as they like to refer to a community and thats a massive stretch as theres no live discussions or debates. Theres more going on here if that helps!
