Most energy companies are not quoting for new customers, unless it's a ridiculously priced fixed deal, and the majority of customers are now on the variable tariffs which are price capped, so the will be little if any difference in the prices among all companies.

That's SO interesting. 😉 A while back we were talking of fixed tariffs that were 40% above the then current prices. Perhaps they were a good deal after all? It's gonna be a rough ride!

That's right, although at the time, I don't think anyone thought it would get as bad as it is and will be. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, if only we could go back, we could have avoided the long term pain that these bills will bring

Had another call from Shell Energy today left on voice mail endeavouring to make an appointment for a Meter installment...very cheeky message like its a done deal and just want to arrange a time. I advised the last dude to mark my account with a big no to smart meters.
Anyway I posted on Shells Powering your Ideas thingy thang stating the power of spread sheets preferable to smart meters and more fun. I doubt anyone has bothered to read it because in the lounge section the last post was a year ago.
But I've received 2 or 3 email/short surveys participation which I tend to go against the grain if the questions are biased towards their expected results. Theres a monthly short round up and some peeps I guess get a few quid for taking part in the surveys.
******* - asking for your views on the different ways in which you can contact Shell Energy. - It is a little different to other topics we have done this year, so we appreciate you sticking with it and sharing your views. - Shell Energy found your feedback really helpful. - We also ran a quick poll about alternative energy sources. - It was really interesting to hear that solar and wind were the sources you would most like to see your energy come from. - Look out for another topic coming really soon about alternative energy. - We hope you've enjoyed taking part this month. As ever, your feedback is really appreciated. POWERING YOUR IDEAS with C ENERGY Well done! Congrats to our......... *******
Theres no sense of community and nothing to get excited about. Wish Ya'll was their we might have a ball.....I login and log out because theres bugger all going on. I've asked the moderator via email whats the point of the site, a couple of weeks ago without response. Guess if it was like PP's set up I'd become a wee bit more positive and less sarcastic.
Guess no one else has been asked to join...not sure why they asked me, probably a random thing.

I've never seen anything about the powering your ideas website, I thought it was just advertising blurb, maybe it is by invitation.
My suggestion would be to get some bods in the support section that actually read the full question instead of a glance at the first few words. My house move isn't going to plan, as my purchase has stalled due to the sellers solicitors not sending all the required paperwork, but my buyers are pushing for completion due to their mortgage offer expiring. The owners of the new home have offered to allow me to move in before completion with a short term nominal rental contract while the paperwork is sorted I emailed shell support asking how I would go about setting up a new account while the present onel was still active, even if only for a few days, as the new home is with shell also I received a reply saying thank you for choosing shell for your new home and then went on to explain how to set up an account, no mention of our existing arrangements. It took two replies before they actually answered the original question

Sounds like the usual solicitors attention to detail saga...at best you can attempt to keep your own conveyancing bod nudged along, but have little to no influence on the other side unless of course your own bod forgot todo something and making excuses. Anyway solicitors lack of attention to detail/timing issues can be dependant on workload priorities.. until they've got to get up to speed. Trouble is the client suffers.
Well Shell don't listen so I guess you'll have to manage them...... and the more I think about that voice message I received the more I think I'm gonna use the word harassment back! We live in world with (too) many forms of communication and that a high percentage are sadly dumber, frustrating, robotic, laughable and when you add the NHS some what lacking to the point of dangerous.
Hope the move proceeds without further issues Duppy, and does not raise anxiety levels.

The problem with many solicitors or conveyancing firms is they don’t employ qualified staff. It is a tick box process and they have to tick the boxes with no ability to think outside such.

With solicitors there is also the problem with staffing and getting absences covered, I emailed mine on Thursday and got an auto out of office til Tuesday reply and any queries will be dealt with in date order I tried phoning and got the same result, so nothing will happen now until Tuesday I've no idea what would happen if they went sick or took a vacation

My bill for the period ending 5th August is now in. My standing charge for gas is greater than the cost of consumption. Nice to have warm weather!

Couldn't quite match that on the Gas SC £8.43 and usage £14.43
Bill came in so went online and went through the usual Human v System game with the DD increasing. DD advised £186 per month - thats gonna sound cheap soon... Allowed me to dial down to £149 but had to explain reason unless I went for £168. So I advised that I have £70 credit, my next DD will be £149 and I have accurately (spread sheet analysis) forecasted my next Bill before it arrives meaning I will remain in credit next month.

I've changed my direct debit to variable payment on bill. Yes I will have higher bills come winter, but I'd rather have the money in my bank not theirs, and paying in advance won't change my usage so it would need to be paid anyway

Hey guys, nice chats here I missed. I also missed any invite to a sterile Shell forum. Sounds like I'm not missing much. Good luck with the move Duppy!

I much prefer paying for what I use. Shell never gave me the option to do otherwise when I was moved across. For the first 7 months of this year my records show I have used 2343.52 kWhs less gas than last year and 129.80 kWhs less electricity. Not sure why but some of the gas drop will be due to the warm weather. I wish the cost was just as welcoming. Despite the drop, to date the increase for gas and electricity has been £354.67. The cost in 7 months matches my total year’s cost for 2011 and is closing on 2016, my two lowest years.

Cost wise, I'm paying more than what I used to pay PP for my 'Winter' payment to Shell for my 'Summer' usage, you can see the April price increase easily on my account as my bills are:
5 March £93.54 (410 kWh) 5 April £92.83 (418 kWh) 5 May £124.04 (reworked bill as they charged me incorrectly for the April price rise) 5 June £137.93 (428 kWh) 5 Jul £119.03 (368 kWh) 5 Aug £121.85 (378 kWh)
I'm not looking forward to the post-October prices.

Dual Fuel March £130.71 April £166.15 May £101.73 June £70.18 July £69.28 Aug £84 approx but close and June July would be approx the same if had not gone away.
Haven't moved as still undecided where to live so have not left our single glazed house. Perhaps erect from the the inside insulation using cling film and balsa wood. Sort of double hazing.
